Funding
Currently there are no funding programs in B.C. specifically for anaerobic digestion. However, there are several funding programs available for renewable energy technologies and projects that address climate change and greenhouse gas issues. Anaerobic digestion projects will likely qualify for several of these. For example, please see:
- Energy Loan: Farm Credit Canada has recently announced their new Energy Loan to help farmers and agribusinesses move toward producing their own renewable energy.
- AAFC AgriFlexibility Fund: This is a five-year $500 million fund that is directly linked to AAFC's departmental strategic outcomes of an agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sector that is innovative, environmentally sustainable, competitive and that proactively manages risks.
There are also financial opportunities, such as the B.C. Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Program. The EFP, which complements and enhances the current stewardship practices of producers, could provide up to 30% (up to a maximum of $70,000) cost share for manure storage in combination with anaerobic digestion. For more information, please see Category Code 31, Practice Code 3101-2 on page 18 of the BMP document on the right hand side of this page, or contact ARDCorp EFP Program at (604) 854-4483 or email efpinfo@ardcorp.ca.
The four other documents on the right hand side of this page and the Climate Action Initiative funding catalogue (which can be found on the CAI website under 'latest documents') provide good overviews of programs and opportunities that are currently available in B.C. However, while these documents capture the vast majority of programs and opportunities, they should not be considered exhaustive. Furthermore, because each program and opportunity has its own eligibility requirements, the delivery agent should be contacted before any decisions are made to pursue the program or opportunity in question.
